Vehicle daily check sheet. A printable daily walkaround check sheet for a collection vehicle, including the body, the lifting gear and the items a refuse vehicle has that a lorry does not.
This is the paper version. WasteOptix does the same job on a phone, with the record filed against the round and the vehicle automatically.

What is on the sheet
- Vehicle, driver, depot, date and odometer
- The exterior and under-vehicle items worked through before first use
- Cab and in-cab checks, including those that can only be tested with the engine running
- Body, packer plate, tailgate, bin lift and anything else specific to a collection vehicle
- A nil-defect line, so a clean check is a record rather than a gap
- A rectification block — assessment, action, who repaired it and the date it was completed
Why this record matters
A walkaround check is a daily first-use inspection by the driver, and the undertaking on an operator licence is not that checks happen but that defects found are reported in writing. That makes the sheet a record-keeping document as much as an inspection one.
The items particular to this trade are the ones generic sheets miss. A bin lift, a packer plate, a tailgate and the controls for all three are the parts of a refuse vehicle most likely to hurt somebody, and they are not on a check sheet designed for a curtainsider.
The half most sheets leave off is the end of it. A defect record is expected to show what was found, how it was assessed, what was done and when the work was finished — so a sheet that stops at who the defect was reported to has recorded the problem and nothing about the response.
Intervals, tread depths and any other figure are not on this sheet. They come from the current DVSA guidance and from the operator's own maintenance arrangements, and they are the kind of thing that changes.
